Cycling and Mountain Biking Adventures at Forss House Hotel

Cycling in Scotland will provide you with wide open spaces, dramatic scenery and clean fresh air with routes to suit all abilities. From dedicated mountain biking centres and forest trails for those seeking an adrenaline buzz, to quiet countryside lanes for something a little more relaxing. Scotland is also perfect for cycle touring.

Forss House is located on part of the 9000 mile National Cycle Network (NN1E) which is a linked series of traffic free paths and traffic calmed roads designed as a stepping stone to explore the UK. For more information call Sustrans Information Service on 0117 929 0888 or visit the Sustrans Scotland webpage www.sustrans.org.uk

If off road cycling is more to your tastes then there are Forestry Commission approved cycle routes at Camster, Borgie Forrest and Trudercraig ranging from 9 to 16 mile round trips. We have route maps at Forss House or you can get copies of Cycling in the Forest for the Northern Highlands from the Forestry Commission on 01862 810359.

The most northern of Scotland's mountain bike centres, the evocatively named Highland Wildcat Trails are accessed directly from the centre of Golspie, a picturesque village about an hour's drive south of Forss.

The trail, which climbs up the side of Ben Bhraggie before plunging back down to Golspie again, was designed and built by Pete Laing, the man who built the first trails at Glentress. And it includes many of the features common to 7stanes and other man-made centres, with jumps and burns, as well as more technical rock sections and drop-offs.

This is likely to be a ride that appeals all year round, with local sandstone providing a great base for much of the trail and very high quality surfaces that make it resilient and good to ride on, with a nice natural feel. For more information visit the website: www.highlandwildcat.com
